As a community that strives to follow Jesus, Parkside actively speaks truth to power. If there is a protest for justice in Sacramento, you will likely find a group of Parksiders there. When the need arises, we've been known to use our little corner of Sacramento as its own protest sight.

Climate Task Force - No Subtitle - 1920x1080.jpg

"Are you concerned about the climate crisis?

Would you like to work with others in the Parkside community to make a difference?

The Justice Team would like to form a Parkside Climate Task Force. Together, we’ll take a look at interfaith climate action groups and others that match Parkside's values, with whom we might partner. The Task Force might also identify specific actions members of the church can take on our own. If you'd like to be part of this conversation, or know someone who might be interested, please email either Michael Dack or Cheryl McDonald.

Advocacy and Service

Parkside's Justice Team offers opportunities for justice advocacy and direct service. Through our affiliation with Sacramento Area Congregations Together (SacACT), the Justice Team regularly sets out a table after worship with notices of petitions to sign, legislators to call, and/or public comments to write. Members are involved in direct service with SSIP food closet, Family Promise, Exodus Project, Opening Doors, and more. Jesus brought his faith and politics together. So do we.

Justice Partner Opportunity:

Opening Doors' Welcome House

Opening Doors is pleased to announce the launch of Welcome House - an innovative project that supports our mission to provide the ‘welcome’ that refugees deserve.

The Welcome House is a private residence that will be used as temporary housing for Afghan refugees immediately after landing here in Sacramento.

The goal of the Welcome House is to offer a safe and comfortable place for newly arriving refugees to rest during their first few days until permanent housing and/or semi-permanent placement with U.S. ties can be arranged.

Parksiders live into the words of the late poet Maya Angelou:

"When you know better, do better."

Calling upon local experts, Parkside's Justice Team offers regular justice education events. Some of these events have spurred sub-teams leading us into a more just and righteous communal life.
