Hello, I am Reverend Carla Dietz, the new Interim Minister at Parkside UCC starting just this week. I have been in active ministry for well over two decades and am excited to be here. Yale Divinity School is where I got my education and so I follow in the footsteps of progressive theologians. The work I focus on; preaching the word, administering the sacraments, Community and Justice Outreach, Youth ministry, Children and Family ministry and service to people of all abilities, learning styles and geographical backgrounds. I have Masters Degrees in both Special Education and in Divinity.
John Carroll is my spouse and we have a dog named Bella whom you may see around the church from time to time. She is 14 and we adopted her as a pup from a Foster-Pet organization. They delivered her to us on an RV which had traveled from Arkansas to Connecticut. People often ask, “what is she?” She is Border Collie/Lab. We are mainly from the NY Metro area, CT and MA, though John was born in Bryan OH. This seems to make him nicer. He is a life-long choir person singing Baritone (tenor when absolutely necessary) and works as a Church Finance and Facilities Specialist.
We have a lovely, accomplished daughter, Liz Scheller-Crowley who works for the CA Attorney General; a brilliant, kind son-in-law Kevin Scheller-Crowley who is in the advertising technology industry; and a delightful 2.5 year-old granddaughter Eliza, all of whom you will meet as they live in Sacramento. Both Kevin and Liz were raised in the UCC!

Lauren joined Parkside in Spring 2021 along with her partner, Reuben.
A 2018 Dean’s Scholar and Master of Divinity graduate of Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA where she was awarded the Beloved Community Award for her contributions to creating a vibrant and transformational PSR Community, Lauren’s greatest passion is to facilitate and co-create brave spaces where young people are invited to show up as their full selves, with permission to continue to discover and be curious about who they are and what they think, believe, and feel about the world around them. She recently completed a 9 month residency as a Chaplain at the UC Davis Medical Center, providing spiritual care and support to patients and staff during the peaks of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lauren currently serves as the Interim Director of Spiritual Engagement at CA House in Davis, CA, where she brings her experience of facilitating immersive community service work and comprehensive sexuality education with a focus on empowerment and coaching to her programmatic and spiritual care work with UC Davis students.
A farmgirl at heart, when not working or pursuing steps towards ordination, Lauren can be found outside on the water or in the mountains, paddleboarding, hammocking, hiking, and traveling the world, gardening, playing with her dog, or, if inside: writing letters, reading a good book or working on her blog of inclusive and diverse youth literature recommendations.
